OTC cough and cold cures not for toddlers
(Wednesday, 03 September 2008) Written by John McGuinness
I read an article in Readers Digest recently that said that over the counter (OTC) cold and flu drugs were too dangerous to children 2 years old and under. Last year (2007) the US FDA warned that these products can cause serious harm to infants and children  under 2 years old, often when parents accidently overdose them. No cold medicines actually make much difference to the duration of the cold or flu. You've got it for how ever long you've got it. All they do is relieve symptoms. The exception of course, is children's paracetamol which usually helps to reduce fevers. LIke my friend Ron the Chemist always says, talk to your local pharmacist or doctor first. And always talk to them about combining natural medicines with these drugs before you do it.
